Bars in Megève: where to have a drink during your stay

Megève is more than its pistes and its starred restaurants. The village also has genuinely good bars — a panoramic rooftop, a tiny cocktail counter tucked into an old-village lane, and the mountain terraces where the ski day actually ends. We checked every address below against each venue’s own official source: what is really open, what you can actually drink there, and at what time of year — because in Megève, more than most places, the season changes everything. Here are eight spots, from the quietest to the liveliest.

Cocktails and rooftops

This is the category that has grown most in Megève in recent years. You will now find both five-star hotel bars and independent counters where the cocktail is treated as a craft in its own right. Three stand out.

Glass Bar — Four Seasons Resort Megève

The Four Seasons’ cocktail bar, at 373 chemin des Follières, takes its name and its character from the work of glass sculptor Gilles Chabrier, who created the bar itself. The resort describes it as “an elegant cocktail bar in Megève, perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes”: you come here for a glass of fine wine, a signature cocktail or afternoon tea, in a hushed rather than lively atmosphere. This is the most upmarket entry on the list, with prices to match. Open every day from 4pm to 10pm.

Le Rooftop Bar — Grand Hôtel Soleil d’Or

Perched on the roof of the Grand Hôtel Soleil d’Or at 255 rue Charles Feige, this bar has panoramic views over the village and the surrounding massifs — one of the best viewpoints in the village you can reach without taking a lift. The list runs from signature cocktails built on local flavours to classic cocktails, regional and international wines, craft beers, charcuterie boards and small sharing plates. The hotel itself is worth knowing about: its own page describes it as “founded in 1901, the oldest hotel in Megève”, fully renovated in 2019. The hotel lists the bar as open every day from 5pm to 11pm, though published hours shift with the season — worth confirming before you head up. In summer, a two-hour cocktail masterclass runs on Sundays, capped at eight guests.

The Rabbit Hole

At 50 rue Saint-François, in the old village, this small bar describes itself as “a tasting bar for gourmets and amateurs”: classic cocktails, house creations, and a genuine non-alcoholic cocktail list, which is still rare in a ski resort. It is the most affordable address in this section — customers report a range of roughly €10 to €20 per person — and it currently holds a 5.0 rating on Google Maps, albeit from a small number of reviews. There is no official website, so the link above goes to its Google Maps listing, which carries the current opening hours. Worth noting: it trades seven days a week in season and five days out of season, with two two-week annual closures.

Mountain bars and après-ski

This is the most distinctly Alpine category, and the one where the question of the season really matters. These places live by the lift schedule: they open when the pistes open and close when the pistes close.

La Folie Douce Saint-Gervais / Megève

The most spectacular après-ski in the area: an open-air restaurant and bar with DJ sets, singers, dancers, musicians and performers, facing Mont Blanc. It sits at the top of the Mont-Joux chairlift on the Saint-Gervais side, inside the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area that links the two resorts — which is why it trades under both names. Access is for skiers only: pedestrians, pets and sledges are not admitted. The last chairlift up leaves at 4.30pm, with the ski down until the slopes close at 5pm.

One important point, and an easy one to misread: at the time of writing, the official site shows “Fermé — Réouverture Saison 2026/2027” (Closed — reopening for the 2026/2027 season) alongside a “See you next winter!” message. This is a normal seasonal closure, not a permanent one — it is a mountain bar reachable only on skis, so it only trades in winter. If you are staying in Megève in summer, this one simply moves to your next ski trip.

Le Hibou d’Arbois

The alternative that does not need a lift pass. This restaurant, bar and large terrace sits at 3001 route Edmond de Rothschild, at the foot of the Mont d’Arbois cable car — under 300 metres from the slopes in winter, and beside the Mont d’Arbois golf course in summer. You can reach it on foot as easily as on skis, which makes it a practical meeting point when not everyone in the group is skiing. It serves from breakfast through to the end of the afternoon, with a Savoyard-leaning menu, and has a takeaway counter, La Cabane, for a quick stop. Expect €20 to €50 à la carte. Open daily from 8.30am to 6.30pm during its trading periods, which follow the two seasons — one summer window and one winter window, with a gap in between. Check the dates before setting out in the shoulder season.

Hotel bars and quiet lounges

In Megève, the bars of the big hotels are listed publicly among the village’s bars alongside everywhere else, and they are often the most pleasant places for an early-evening drink, well away from the noise.

Le Bar des Fermes de Marie

At 163 chemin des Épis, in the heart of Les Fermes de Marie, this bar plays the mountain drawing-room card: comfortable armchairs, warm materials in muted grey and tobacco tones, a library corner. It serves cocktails, wine and champagne alongside slates of regional cheese and charcuterie, plus afternoon tea with house-made pastries. This is the one to remember for a quiet aperitif before dinner, or for settling in after a day’s skiing or hiking. Open every day from 10am to midnight.

Casual spots and late nights

Two more addresses round out the picture, at opposite ends of the day: one for the morning coffee and the afternoon drink, the other for finishing the evening.

Bar des Alpes

The anchor of this list, and probably the most useful address day to day: a village brasserie at 273 rue de la Poste that also works as a bar, pizzeria, tobacconist and bread depot, with a terrace and Wi-Fi. The menu runs from salads and paninis to tartiflette and burgers, with Savoie wines, craft beers and house cocktails; the venue advertises “affordable set formulas” of main plus dessert. Its real advantage on a longer stay: it is open all year, Monday to Sunday, from 6.30am to 10pm — including in the shoulder season, when a good part of the village is shut.

Le Gallery Bar — Stelsia Casino Megève

Set in the heart of the Stelsia Casino at 192 rue Charles Feige, this chic lounge-style bar comes with a 300 m² terrace and a deliberate artistic streak: it acts as a showcase for local, national and occasionally international artists, with temporary exhibitions that rotate regularly. This is where you go to keep the evening going: open Monday to Thursday from 7.30pm to 2am, Friday and Saturday from 3pm to 3am, and Sunday from 3pm to 2am — but these hours follow a seasonal calendar (roughly mid-June to mid-September, then early December to late March): check current dates and hours before visiting outside those windows. Because it sits inside the casino, entry is adults only on presentation of ID.

Hours and seasons: what to check

This is what catches visitors out most often, and it is worth being methodical about:

• “Closed” rarely means “closed for good”. Mountain bars only trade during the ski season. A site or listing showing “closed” in August is almost always in a normal seasonal shutdown.
• The shoulder season is the real trap. The gaps between the ski season and the summer season — broadly April to June, then October to early December — see many venues close for several weeks at a stretch.
• Published hours disagree between sources. We found gaps between the hours venues publish themselves and those repeated on tourist-board listings. When in doubt, the venue’s own website is the more reliable source, or simply call.
• Some venues have conditional access. La Folie Douce can only be reached on skis; the Gallery Bar is inside a casino, so it is adults only with ID.
• Book ahead for the small places. Village cocktail counters have very few seats: in high season and during the school holidays, a message or a call in advance saves a wasted walk.

If you are spending a full season in Megève rather than a week, these eight are worth discovering slowly: the village bar for everyday, the rooftops and hotel bars for the evenings that matter, and the mountain bars when the snow is there. That is the real advantage of a seasonal stay in Megève — having the time to build your own habits, instead of compressing everything into a few days.
